42 Years of Miracles

Miracles begin with God’s people praying.
That’s how it all began for New Hope Hilo over four decades ago.

1981

In March 1981 New Hope Fellowship became a chartered church with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.  Pastor Rod Kawakami was our first Senior Pastor.

1984

In 1984, Senior Pastor Wayne Cordeiro paved the way for a new home.  Following months of praying for God’s direction and provision, we purchased our property consisting of 18.9 acres for $235,000 in 1987.  A huge miracle from God!

1990

Three years later, construction began.  Hundreds of volunteer hours of “Sweat-Fellowship” brought our congregation closer to one another and closer to our goal of having our own home!
We saw miracle after miracle happen as God used ordinary people to fulfill an extraordinary project.  Not considering our own limitations, we poured concrete, put up walls, tiled floors, fit sidings and planted shrubs until the church buildings emerged before our eyes!
All-night prayer vigils were held on the partially completed site.  On such a night, over six hundred scriptures and promises pertaining to salvation and healing were written on the interior framing.  As you’re sitting in the sanctuary, imagine you are surrounded with God’s Word!

1992

Finally, in October 1992, birthed out of prayer, faith, and the enthusiastic involvement of hundreds of New Hope saints, we moved from our rented facilities, the Hilo Boys and Girls Club, to our new home, 32,000 square feet building and an 8,000 square feet Children/Youth Center.
Even after moving into our new “house,” the enthusiasm did not cease.  The New Hope family continued to faithfully contribute their time and finances.  Under the leadership of Senior Pastor, Alex Pacheco, we added the administrative building, the covered walkways, the ballpark, playground and storage buildings. This was all an expression of God’s people working together with a vision to bless the generations to come.

2009 - today

Today, under the direction of Lead Pastor, Sheldon Lacsina, The LEGACY continues!
God continues to pour His blessings and miracles as New Hope Church continues to be a place where children are loved, the youth become leaders, people are discipled, lives and hearts are changed, and hopes are renewed for eternity!

Being a global church that spans hundreds of cultures requires flexibility in style and approach. But every Foursquare church around the world agrees on six foundational principles: kingdom partnerships, sound doctrine, empowering leadership, family relationships, Spirit empowerment and shared mission. These are called our Global Distinctives. It’s what makes us, us.
